How to verify land before you pay in Nigeria
Five checks I run with every client before a single payment — and why you should never skip them.

Buying land is exciting, but excitement is when mistakes happen. Here are the checks I insist on.
1. Confirm the seller
Make sure the person or company selling actually has the right to sell.
2. Inspect the documents
Ask for the Deed of Assignment, Registered Survey or C of O, and have them reviewed.
3. Search at the land registry
A search confirms the land is not under government acquisition or dispute.
4. Physical or video inspection
See the land, the beacons and the access road — in person or on a live video call.
5. Pay into the right account
Pay only into the company's official account and always collect receipts.
